DODHAKIYON JO SAAG – MITHO

(Dow~dah~kyon Joe Sah~ag – Me~thow)

(Bottle Gourd & Split Green gram – Sweet Vegetable)

Serves – 4

 

Ingredients

Bottle Gourd – 1 no. (medium sized)

Split Green gram lentil – ¼ cup

Ghee – 2 tblsp.

Asafoetida – pinch

Salt – to taste

Method

1.)    Soak the split green gram in water for 1 hour prior to the cooking.

2.)    Peel and cut the bottle gourd into small rectangular pieces.

3.)    In a toap, heat the ghee on a medium flame. When the ghee melts, add asafoetida and allow it to temper.

4.)    When the colour of asafoetida starts changing, add the chopped pieces of bottle gourd. Stir well.

5.)    Add the split green gram and salt and stir for some time.

6.)    Add a little water and allow the vegtable to cook. (Add a little water only because the bottle gourd will also emitting water on being cooked)

7.)    Cook till the lentil and the gourd become tender. Serve piping hot.

To serve

Dodhakiyon jo Mitho Saag is served with Phulko.

    I didn’t know that Hing contained gleutn. This is the first time that I have come across this information. We use Hing at home as it is an essential ingredient in sambhar. Sambhar gets its unique flavour partly because of Hing. Thanks for the info.
