VATANA TAMATAY JO SAAG

(Wut~than~nay Tum~ma~tay Joe Sah~ag)

(Green Peas with Tomato Vegetable)

Serves – 4

 

Ingredients

Green peas – 100 gms.

Tomatoes (medium sized) – 4 nos.

Potatoes (medium sized) – 2 nos.

Green Chillies – 4 nos.

Red Chilli powder – ½ tsp.

Raw mango powder – ½ tsp.

Coriander powder – ½ tsp.

Turmeric powder – ½ tsp.

Oil – 2 tblsp.

Asafoetida – pinch

Salt – to taste

Coriander leaves – 1 tblsp.

Method

1.)    Shell the green peas and cut the potatoes into small pieces.

2.)    In a pan, heat oil on a medium flame. When hot, add the chopped green chillies and asafoetida. Let it temper.

3.)    When the green chillies start popping, add the potato pieces and green peas.

4.)    Add 1 cup water, salt and turmeric powder. Mix well and allow it to cook for 15 – 20 minutes.

5.)    When the potatoes become tender, add the chopped tomatoes and all the remaining spices. Mix thoroughly and cook for some time till the gravy becomes thick in consistency.

6.)    Serve hot garnished with chopped coriander leaves.

To serve

Vatana Tamatay jo Saag can be served with Phulko for dinner. It is also served as an accopaniment to the main course for lunch.
