(Bottle Gourd with Split Green Gram – Spicy)



Bottle gourd (medium sized) – 1 no.
Split green gram lentil – ¼ cup
Oil – 2 tblsp.
Asafoetida – pinch
Green chillies – 3 nos.
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp.
Salt – to taste
Mango powder – ½ tsp.
Dried Coriander leaves – 1 tsp.


  1. Soak the split green gram lentil in water for 1 hour before the start of preparation.
  2. Peel and cut the bottle gourd into small rectangular pieces.
  3. In a toap, heat the oil. When hot, add chopped green chillies and asafoetida. Allow it to temper.
  4. When the green chillies start popping, add the bottle gourd. Stir for some time.
  5. Add the split green gram lentil, salt, and turmeric powder and stir to mix the ingredients well.
  6. Add some water and let it cook. (Add a little water only, since water will also emit from the bottle gourd when cooked).
  7. When the lentil and the gourd become tender, add dried coriander leaves and the mango powder. Cook for a few more minutes. Serve hot.
