(Turmeric Rice)

Indian Style Rice Recipe |

Saaya Choka literally means Yellow Rice.


Rice – 1 cup
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp.
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp.
Ghee – 1 tsp.
Salt – to taste
Water – 2 cups


  1. Soak the rice in water for 1 hour prior to the cooking. After an hour, drain out the water and keep the rice aside.
  2. Place the ghee in a toap on a medium flame. When it starts melting, add the mustard seeds. Allow it to temper.
  3. When the mustard seeds start popping, add the rice to this tempered mixture.
  4. Sauté the rice for a couple of minutes.
  5. Add salt, turmeric powder and water and let the rice cook.
  6. Cook till the rice is boiled or the water is evaporated. Serve hot.

To serve

Saaya Choka is served with Masalay piyo Saag  or Pappad Vanghar jo Saag  for Lunch.
